Internet has been quite a big part of our life. Almost everything in this world can be done through the internet – work, study, money transfer, worldwide communication, friends making, file download (songs or movies), searching information, or even religious things.

Nowadays, people can’t get rid of this technology to do their daily stuffs as there are uncountable number of websites that can facilitate them. Everyday, or maybe every hours or even every second, there are internet users who sign up in websites they need for their own purposes.

In each of these websites, I am sure you must have noticed they have their own Terms of Services (TOS) for you to agree with before you can finally succeed to register an account. Nevertheless, how many people do you think really read carefully every point in the TOS before they tick the “I agree” box?

Furthermore, for those who do not read, do you think they know how far the consequences can be when they violate any point in the TOS? Ticking the “I agree” box can be very simple and sound nothing but, what do you think will be done when the violation comes to happen?

The consequences can be big or small, depending on how bad the effect is. For example, I am sure most of you have heard about the case of MySpace TOS violation, which led to the suicide of nearly 14 years old innocent teen in 2006. This has been one of the most famous cyber crime cases, done by Lori Drew (who was 47 at that time) to Megan Meier (who was nearly 14 at that time).

It happened that Lori used a fake MySpace ID to bully Megan, depressing her psychologically. Lori firstly started to flatter Megan to attract her by sending her messages as Josh Evans, a cute boy in MySpace. Then, after few weeks, this “Josh Evans” turned into an evil guy who kept sending Megan nasty messages, hurt her psychologically, which then led to her suicide. You can see the details here.

This is violating one of MySpace Terms of Service, which clearly stated that people must be “truthful and accurate”. This case then led to lawful action as it is against the federal law of the United States too, about the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act.

The point of this example is that violating the TOS of any websites can be very devastating. Terms of Service are created by websites to ensure that everything in the service goes in the right way and the users do not abuse the service for their own purposes. It is not aimed to put difficulties on the users. Instead, it is created to make sure that the service is used properly for everyone’s own good.

Unfortunately, the main issue is that violating TOS sounds common and usual for users as most of them never really care to read it thoroughly. People think that reading the TOS fully is just a waste of time and effort. And this is how all simple to huge violations take place and go wrong.

Internet users actually should read everything written in the Terms of Service so that they know how they must use the service properly. Most Terms of Service are based on the US federal law (if the service is in the US). They are made because they are important and people who use the website’s service must know what to do and what not to do when they register to prevent any unexpected circumstances.

If internet users care for this and are eager to spend little of their valuable time to read, there will be no violation against the Terms of Service, or at least the number is not as much as it is. Furthermore, there will be no or less violation to the federal law too regarding cyber crime. Even further, there will be also no or at least less federal crime done by internet users. So, it’s now the time for us to be more aware…

Email marketing campaigns have been very popular nowadays in promoting your company updates, new products, and new services to your subscribers. You send newsletters to their emails whenever you need to so they will keep updated to what’s going on with you.

However, do you really think it is now still easy to get through your subscribers’ emails when there have been spam filters to protect their inboxes from spam emails? Telling you the truth, it is not. Email spam filters are able to consider your emails as spams just by concluding from the words you use in your email marketing campaigns.

This means there are words you must pay attention carefully in composing your emails to your subscribers as they can trigger spam filters to block the emails right away before reaching the inbox. What are the words and how to avoid this situation?

Some MUST-PAY-ATTENTION Words
In your email marketing campaigns, here are some words that you absolutely must pay attention to if you consider using them. They include – reverses aging (3.37), hidden assets (3.28), stop snoring (3.26), free investment (3.19), dick up dirt on friends (3.12), stock disclaimer statement (3.04), Multi Level Marketing (3.01), compare rates (2.83), cable converter (2.75), claims you can be removed from the list (2.70), removes wrinkles (2.69), compete for your business (2.57), free installation (2.51), free grant money (2.50), auto email removal (2.36), collect child support (2.33), free leads (2.29), amazing stuff (2.26), tells you it’s an ad (2.21), cash bonus (2.20), promise you …! (2.15), claims to be in accordance with some spam law (2.11), search engine listings (2.09), free preview (2.07), credit bureaus (2.03), no investment (2.01),  and serious cash (2.00).

Even the number keeps increasing and the spam words keep add up further and more. You can check more suspected spam words list here. To solve these triggering words issue, there are few things you can do about it.

Choose the right words selection
Be sure to prioritize on keeping your newsletters the most professional they can be! Spam filters analyze emails by the words used. So this means, you need to avoid using words that are very heavy spam trigger keywords.

Make a Good Formatting
You must keep your email formatting simple and professional. For example, don’t use too many different colors, fonts, sizes, or images as this will result to spam filtering. So, it is better to have your email clean. Just use 2 or 3 different fonts and sizes and that will be enough.

Use Consistent Newsletter Template

In creating your newsletters, you better have a template if you send newsletters routinely, like let’s say once a month, which is an acceptable frequency to send newsletters. By using template, it will ensure that your newsletters have its own style as they have the same look and feel. If your email newsletters have the same style, it will help you to avoid spam filter system. Additionally, it will provide you with professionalism and good branding to your newsletters.

Provide Unsubscribe and Contact Information
Remember to provide a way for the readers unsubscribe in the newsletters you send as if you don’t,  it is considered illegal in some countries, which is also an instant sign of spam. You must include any contact information, either phone, fax, or address, to show the confidence  of your email and company too. This contact information is useful in case there is any potential customer who’d like to contact you.

Do Mailing Test before You Send

The last step to ensure that your emails do not enter spam filters is by testing it first before you finally send them. For example, you can try to send the newsletters first to some email accounts  of yours with spam filters. If the newsletters do not go to inbox and are sent to junk folder, that means your email newsletters still have things to fix first before you can send them to your subscribers and you have to solve it.

So, starting from now on, you can ensure that your email marketing campaigns work perfectly without having to be restricted by the spam filtering system.

WordPress, the most popular blogging tool ever that I’ve ever known. Everybody who writes blogs mostly use it as their blogging tool, either it is from WordPress.com or WordPress.org. Wait! Are there two wordpresses? Yes, there are. However, both are really WordPress original. Then, what’s the difference and why are there two? Let me throw away all the confusion below.

WordPress.com

WordPress.com is a commercial enterprise website with full-time developers, designers and support agents. Using WordPress.com, you can setup your blogs easier and free of charge. You get your own wordpress subdomain like xxx.wordpress.com by just signing up an account. Then, everything is taken care for you, including setup, upgrades, backups, and security.

What is even better is that your blog is located on hundreds of servers, meaning that it is impossible to  go down due to high traffic. Your posts are safe too as they are backed up automatically. Additionally, you get extra traffic from blogs of the day and tags or find bloggers that have similar mind to yours using tag and friend surfer.

WordPress.com has secured login using SSL so no one can get your account access even when you use wi-fi. It also offers more than 70 attractive themes that keep adding each day and you’re able to edit the CSS. The only little minus is only you can’t run a custom theme; but honestly, the features are all good.

WordPress.org
On the other hand, WordPress.org  is a free blogging software, which now the latest version is WordPress 2.71. Using this free software, you can create and setup your own blog plus install themes and plugins, run advertisements, edit the database, or even modify the PHP source codes.

And to be able to have all these, you just need a good web host to host your blog site. However, please remember as this is downloadable software, it requires more technical knowledge for you to master in order to set up and run it smoothly.

For backups, you may need to handle your own backups and when there is newer version of WordPress, you need to upgrade the software manually. But don’t worry! Now, there is an auto-updating tool to upgrade it automatically. But when you get very high traffic, you site might possibly go down unless you have a robust web hosting setup and environment.

Briefly speaking, you have now seen that both WordPress.com and WordPress.org have their own features so, you can decide youself the best version for your blogs and articles.

After you’ve found the strategies about how to get more and more traffic to your website, the next thing you are thinking of must be about increasing your Page Rank, which is a system to rank websites and give them Page Rank. But what’s so important about it?

To tell you the truth, websites that have higher Page Rank are usually considered more important and they are mostly listed on the first lists in search engines, compared to lower Page Rank websites. Page Rank ranges from 1 to 10, meaning that if your website rank is 10, it’s perfect.

Seeing that Page Rank is significant for your existence in search engines, learning some ways to improve Page Rank is useful and also learning to avoid things that can decrease Page Rank is also crucial.

Dos

Here are some that can optimize and increase your Page Rank. First, try to get yourself involves in community websites, such as forums. But keep in mind that they need to be communities related to your website, or at least, general communities that have topic or forum section about your website topic.  Then, post there!  In every posting, create and use signature with back link to your website.

You can also write articles and submit them to article websites. Write helpful articles related to your website and business, which builds your public reputation. At the end of your articles, you can put reference source with back link too to your website so the readers know who write the interesting and helpful articles.

Next thing, pay attention to your website contents by spell checking your website pages. Search engine prefers correct spelled words to misspelled words. If there are misspelled words, it will try to automatically correct search keywords. However, there are certain websites that tend to misspell their contents on purpose as they believe that it can generate more traffic to their sites.

Additionally, you can learn from your competitors. Do some research for competitive keywords in search engines, go to the first few sites (your competitors’ websites) with high page rank, and analyze them. From it, you will see what they have done differently and why they get better Page Rank.

Don’ts

If your website has just been published, you better have no advertisements placed on it yet because search engine is sensitive to websites that seem to be advertisements farm sites and will not index them for quite some time. Just try to have your site up for one month or so with the contents ONLY before placing any advertisement. The time is actually not really measured so it can be a shorter or longer time.

Also, do not have duplicate contents. Avoid copying contents from other sites or any  other way that leads your site being considered as duplicate. Because, if it is detected by search engine, as a duplicate site, your website will not be indexed.

It is better if you just take some relevant parts from other websites but remember to acknowledge the original sources. Make sure that you do not link to the same page like for example http://www.abc.com/ and http://abc.com/. Why? It is because some search engines consider that as duplicates.

By understanding these, you will learn to get a better website Page Rank so that your website can  have more possibility to be listed on the top of search engines.
